There are many other ways that you can subliminally clue him into what you're hoping for. Here are some tips that other brides-to-be have shared with us about how they dropped their hints:

• Loudly talk about a newly engaged or married friend's engagement ring and praise her taste (while he's in earshot, of course)
• Linger in front of certain jewelry store windows that carry your favorite rings. Make sure you stop long enough for him to hear you say "I love the platinum engagement rings in this store. It's so perfect."
• Leave magazines open to certain ads or pictures of rings (or, even less subtle, tear it out and put it in his pocket)
• Cut out a picture of a platinum engagement ring you love and drop it in his jacket pocket

Use Your Friends and Family
Even if he wants to surprise you, chances are he won't be making this decision completely alone. Fill in your close friends and family as to what you want, and leave it up to them to drop the hints for you or steer him in the right direction.
